how to lock assignments on google classroom

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Google Classroom does not have a built-in feature specifically designed for "locking" assignments in the sense of restricting student access after a certain date or time. However, you can control the availability of assignments by setting due dates and specific posting and closing times. Here's how you can do it:

Set Due Dates for Assignments:

  1. Access Google Classroom:

  2. Select the Class:

    • Choose the class that contains the assignment you want to set due dates for.
  3. Create or Edit an Assignment:

    • Click on the "Classwork" tab and either create a new assignment or edit an existing one.
  4. Set Due Date:

    • In the assignment creation or editing window, locate the "Due" date field. Enter the due date and, if needed, the due time.
  5. Optional: Set Additional Options:

    • If you click on "Optional" under the due date, you can set a specific time for the assignment to be due.
  6. Click "Assign" or "Schedule":

    • Once you've set the due date, click "Assign" to immediately assign the task, or click "Schedule" to set a specific time for the assignment to be posted.

Set Posting and Closing Times:

  1. Access Google Classroom:

    • Go to Google Classroom and sign in.
  2. Select the Class:

    • Choose the class that contains the assignment you want to manage.
  3. Create or Edit an Assignment:

    • Click on the "Classwork" tab and either create a new assignment or edit an existing one.
  4. Set Posting Time (Optional):

    • In the assignment creation or editing window, you can set a specific time for the assignment to be posted by using the "Assign" field and selecting "Scheduled." This allows you to choose the date and time when the assignment becomes visible to students.
  5. Set Closing Time (Optional):

    • If you have set a due date, the assignment will be available until that due date by default. If you want to close the assignment to submissions after the due date, you can consider setting an additional "Closed" time using the "Optional" field.
  6. Click "Assign" or "Schedule":

    • Once you've set the posting and closing times, click "Assign" to immediately assign the task, or click "Schedule" to set a specific time for the assignment to be posted.

By utilizing due dates, posting times, and closing times, you can control the availability of assignments on Google Classroom. Keep in mind that the specific features and options may evolve, so it's advisable to check the latest Google Classroom documentation or contact your school's technology support for the most up-to-date information.
